They Strive to Keep People Dumb and Numb

May 27, 2008 · 8 Comments

For the first time we went away for Memorial Day weekend. Gas prices hadn’t started rising when we made our reservations for this past weekend or for a week in July and August to stay at a cabin on Long Pond. The pond is nestled in a small valley near the top of a mountain in the northeastern regions of the Adirondack Mountains, 129 miles from here. We never had the time nor the money to travel far. Our pleasures in life have always leaned toward the simple and within our means. We looked forward to a day when we would enjoy our small excursions to the mountains unhindered by work schedules and the stresses involved in every day life, now we question whether these small dreams will be a reality. Used to personal sacrifices and learning to live on a low income throughout the years, I am hopeful that we will find ways to enjoy our retirement, even though we have already given up our small day trips around the country side that we have enjoyed in the past. Perhaps I will fair better then the spouse in retirement as I seek pleasures of the ordinary aspects, yet the complexities of life that guide us through our personal travels. ( I’m not sure if that sentence made any sense to others, but to me it did. :) ) Even now, I am listening to music that inspires me to travel to lands of peace and tranquility, a pleasure of mind and soul travel that some can never grasp in it’s entirety.

We are fortunate compared to many who are raising families in today’s topsy turvey unbalanced world. On the local news last evening a family was featured having a cookout and partying on their pontoon boat that sat in their yard at home due to the high price of gasoline. Another family was partying on a large cruiser on Lake George and the owner was boasting that he would enjoy the use of his big boat as his friend was paying for the gas. It had cost him $265 to fill up the boat. It makes me wonder what kind of sacrifices, if any, these people will make in their lives as prices of everything we depend on rise. I question and curse the integrity of the news which favors realities of pleasure over realities of living by exhibiting people whose hobbies are being effected by the rising costs instead of people whose everyday living is a struggle in futility. As I watched this play out on the news my thoughts went to those people struggling at $10/hr. jobs and unable to pay for the gas to get them to work, their rent or the nutritious food their children depend on to enhance their growth and learning abilities. I worry about those jobless who call the streets their home and can’t help but wonder how many will join their ranks today.

The corporate owned news media along with our present government hides reality as best it can and only showing the tip of what is real in order to hide the ugly truths of that which actually exists, from war to the economy. If the truth had been exposed to a greater extent over the past years and decades, maybe the mass populace and our country would not be in the dire situation it is now. The news is nothing more then an anesthetic to numb the people, powered by the government.

Ignorance is not bliss, it’s death in disguise!

Peace!

Looking Back to Now

May 21, 2008 · 6 Comments

I’ve traveled into the past to see where I’ve been,

roads dusty, littered with debris,

from tattered rags and shattered walls,

obstacles over come,

to try to understand how I’ve arrived

to this place, to who I am.

Stabbed by the pain of troubled souls,

in a world of tremulous stagnation,

of cold bitterness and damnation, with

little to give but that which resides within

to warm a soul and boost a heart

of those I met plastered against walls

of their own paths in time.

Tears I’ve shed turned to diamonds of joy

as pessimism I vowed to destroy,

I’m not bound by money or power

or material anchors of security.

Life’s energy pushes me on

shared with others ready to accept

and to question that which is portrayed

along the way.

Cosmic to tragic… Ted Kennedy

May 20, 2008 · 4 Comments

I’ve not been able to blog recently due to technical and cosmic interference. Life energy waves had been distorted and directed toward unforeseen pathways by bombardments of pessimistic outside forces. Though defensive shields of optimism had become fragile they did hold up!

The weather has been spring like and unpredictable. One week we hit the 90’s with lots of sun, then we plummeted to the 50’s and rain, but the land is green and bright with new life and the renewed energy after a restful winter sleep.

The McDucks have returned! We are in our 6th year living here and for all these years a pair of mallards have returned each year to a very small hidden swampy pond in the copse of trees next to my building. These ducks are special. First off, ducks mate for life. Apparently they return to where life has been good to them also! They first made their presence known when I caught site of them in a large puddle behind the apartment building while the last spring snow was falling! I was unable to get a photo as they left before these aged bones could return with my camera. It was a beautiful sight seeing them in their dark spring feathers against a sea of white! They keep themselves hidden for quite awhile then one day they begin their daily strolls up and down the road and sidewalks by my building and the one across the way. I’ve seen them totally ignore people and walk under moving vans as people move in and out. It’s interesting to see how the female seems to lead and the male follows and is at the ready to protect her. He never leaves her.

I just heard the news about Ted Kennedy having a malignant brain tumor. My heart and love goes out to him and his family. We are all hoping and praying for the best for this great man who has worked so hard throughout his life for this nation and it’s people.

Peace!
